Now how did THAT get there?!? - Chronicles of the Calamitous Cani

May. 30th, 2009 12:15 am Now how did THAT get there?!?

I seem to have acquired a new spell on my magerium. Where it came from is a mystery to me; I certainly don't recall grafting it.
I will call it Deliver The Distant Nightmare (CrMe25). A touch of looking at theory indicates that it really aught to be Complexity 20, rather than 25. It is a modified form of the basic Plant The Nightmare (CrMe15) which forces the subject to have a certain dream as created by the caster; unlike the version I am familiar with, this variant is meant to be used through an arcane connection.
The malicious potentials of this spell should be obvious, particularly as used with other, even more insideous magics.
I believe I am going to try to forget that I ever saw this spell now whimper and try to find a good excuse and cover story.

More missing time?

Maybe you should check yourself for 'sequester the scheming mastermind' or some such. Are you sure that you're really the person in control of your life?

That sounds troublesome, or harbingersome. For one thing, the excessive complexity suggests that someone invented it -- and in somewhat of a hurry -- with the intent of giving it to you. Perhaps you did yourself? That often happens to Mentador magi.

But you could probably figure out something about how or at least when you got it. It would take a substantial chunk of time and cley to graft, at least if it were done quickly. Look over your cley log, and see what's missing. (You do record every cley you use, the way that all the books on professional magery recommend? ... Me neither. Every couple of decades I pick up a cley log book, but never get past the first page.)

Or perhaps you have constructed a splinter consciousness in the back of your psyche, and it's eagerly doing spell research. I do something along those lines myself, though of course with the far safer and less repugnant art of Tempador.

Good luck, in any case.
